Masters: Theory or Research Based?

Im planning to go for masters in IT. so what is the difference of research based and course based in this kind of field?

if ur interested in research then u go for research based masters.....mostly people who want to further do phd and more research take up that masters.....people more focused on courses want it to be job oriented..dont know which university ur going but ur course work is little different with research based as u take less courses and focus more on research. u should check out the course work under both option ..also u need to find a professor who would sponsor u and a good research idea to pursue research based masters. if ur going to a good university and doing worth while research the professor may pay u for the research.....

so, if im going for a course based masters, i don't need to find any professor to sponsor me, right?

right now im in talks with the admissions office at YorkU and UofT.

mostly yes but UoT requires u to be sponsored by professor....so UoT wont give u admission until u have a professor.....i may be wrong but u can read on their website...
