Hi,
I am from India and I completed my PG Diploma here in Canada. I am looking forward to applying for my work visa(post-graduation work permit- new employer) ASAP. I am single currently, but I'm getting married next month to an Indian who doesn't have any visa in Canada. When I checked the processing time for the work visa with CIC, it is 58 days, which means I will be getting my work permit only after my wedding (a week after the wedding probably) and that means my wedding is happening while my work visa is processed. I am planning to come back to Canada by the first week of January 2019. And I am also planning to apply for the spousal visa for my partner soon after the wedding.
My question here is what should I mention in my marital status now? Will my marital status now affect the spouse visa while I'm applying for it soon after my work permit is given?
PS: I and my partner have been in a relationship for the last 6 years. Should I state we were in a common law relationship or single?

Kindly help!

Congratulations on getting married :)

Your husband cannot apply for a SOWP immediately after you get your PGWP/get married. You need to have a skilled job in NOC 0, A or B + at least three payslips first.

He could try for a TRV if he is able to demonstrate exceptionally strong ties to India + a good financial situation + some travel history to visa-required countries.

Your current marital status is Single/Unmarried until you are legally married. You need to inform IRCC about the change in your marital status after you get married i.e. when your PGWP is being processed.

Have you lived together with your partner for at least 12 continuous months in a marriage-like relationship?
