Hi all,

So I know I've been posting like crazy the last few weeks due to wrapping up on completion of our Outland USA application to sponsor my spouse living in Seattle.

BUT..

One thing that has been bugging me a lot in reviewing our application over and over is my concerns regarding whether or not the fact that only my parents and his parents know about us being married at this point will be an issue to the VO. We got married in a civil ceremony with just our parents present to witness. (Both sets of parents have written lovely letters of support for our application also!) but our siblings/friends and extended families don't know we are married simply because we felt we would prefer to have time to be together and plan a reception/vow renewal in a few years with everyone present to celebrate ( as our families are so spread out all over the world). We didn't want to take away from that day in the future when we get to celebrate everyone so we chose to keep the civil ceremony for just ourselves and our parents.

Obviously the decision is financial also and that's what we have explained in our application as to the reason we had an intimate ceremony with just our parents. With a reception down the road when we have savings for it. We did not disclose that our extended family and friends etc dont know we got married. I'm worried they will question this in some way. Everyone knows we are engaged etc. of course but we have left that little detail out.

Opinions?

How long were you in a relationship before you got married? Do you have pictures with your friends/family of you and your husband together (before the wedding)?

If the relationship itself was long and genuine and not hidden from friends/family, i don't think you should have a problem. Since they knew you were engaged... you can even get them to write letters/testimonials that you are a genuine couple (even if they dont know you're married now).

I also liked how another forumer posted to another concerned US/CAN sponsorship couple. "You're being sponsored from the U.S. is not likely to be fraudulent in the sense that our quality of life here in North American is pretty much equivalent." (in so many words to OP's concern over lack of evidence being submitted)
