Hi all,

I'm married and applying for Spouse Sponsorship (as the sponsor) and my Option C still says I'm Single.

Same thing for my wife's Chinese Household certificate (hukou), who says Single status as well.

I hope this will not cause any problems, as long as we submit the Marriage Certificate?

Thanks!

Get both of those things changed. You are supposed to notify Revenue Canada when you get married, and at the least for your next tax return make sure it says 'married'. The hukou can be changed. You can submit your application before these changes are made, but I would start the process to change them now. Probably it won't make any difference, but I have seen 'single on the hukou' being brought up as a problem on a few cases from China.

I'm not sure about the issue with China but the CRA issue won't affect your ability to sponsor. But you do have to tell CRA that you are married for tax purposes.

CRA needs SIN number of your spouse to change marital status.. so, unless the spouse is here.. how can you change the status from single to married ?

CRA doesn't require a SIN number to change status to married... just fill out the marital status change form, write a note explaining the spouse isn't a resident of canada and include a world income form for your spouse and you'll be set..
