married at 17 is this marriage valid?

hi there I am 23 and my wife was 17 when we both got married. Now she is 18 and according to cic law i can sponsor her now but the problem is since I married her when she was 17 .. will they consider this marriage as valid and process our files? I am so confused thanks

What country is she from? And where was the marriage performed? For CIC to recognize the marriage, it has to be legal in the country where it was performed, and legal in Canada. A person has to be 16 to legally marry in Canada.

You can sponsor her with non issues.
In fact in canada as they mentionned you can get married at 16.

Try reading the previous posts again. They are telling you that you CAN sponsor her provided the marriage was legal in her country....

thanks, and how do we prove that marriage was legal and valid. we have a marriage certificate issued by local registrar. Also, it was arranged marriage and with parental consent.

The current law from my country states girl need to be 18 to marry. but since it was arranged and with parental consent what do you guys have to say about it?

I have heard that marriage like telephone, proxy, internet is not valid and I can from such definition understand that they are indeed invalid but our marriage was performed in according to cultural values and norms. My only question is marrying my wife when she wasn't of legal age at the time of marriage does it make the marriage invalid? thanks

If you were married in a country that requires her to be 18 when married, then you aren't legally married and need to get remarried civilly now that she's 18. If that's not the case, it's not a problem since I assume you followed the customs of your country. Unless of course the parental consent negates this. It's kind of common sense here.

If the country allows people to marry with parental consent at 17 then your marriage is valid. If that's not true, then it isn't valid.

Was the marriage performed in India? Are you both Hindu?

'Valid' in this instance means 'legal'. If you have to be 18 to legally marry in India, but it is legal to marry someone who is 17 with the parents' permission, then you are OK.
