Can anyone out there help me with the following dilemma??? I'm a full time university student with canadian citizenship. I want to sponser my girl friend from back home which is east africa (Ethiopia) and someone told me I need crazy money on my account for assurance and go to back home to marry her. My question is how much do I have to show on my account ? do I have to go over there to get married? and how long it takes the whole proccess to bring her here in Canada? please help me out

You don't need "crazy money" to sponsor her :) There's no minimum income required, as long as you're not bankrupt or on social assistance, then you can sponsor.

Here's the forms you would need, I suggest you start with the guide:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

You can sponsor her as either your spouse (for which you have to be married) or your common-law partner (for which you'd have to live with her for at least 1 year continuously). You can not sponsor someone who is a girlfriend or fiance only.
There is also the conjugal partner category, but it's intended mainly for those who can not marry and can not live together for 1 year.

The processing times for different visa offices are here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp

The office responsible for Ethiopia is Nairobi and I'm afraid they have one of the longest processing times out there. Looks like you're looking at least a year, probably more before the application will be processed. You have a 30% chance of it being processed in 17 months or less, but it can also take 2 years.

Anyway, read the guide first. That will give you some idea of what you're dealing with.

First of all I would to say thank you for taking your precious time to reply to me. Here is the real deal, I'm full time second year student so far I took(owe) $ 18,000 from OSAP ( ontario student assistance program) I don't work at all, but one of my brother told me if I need help he can give me $ 20,000 American dollar. So, does my situation blocks me from sponsoring her? and do I have to go over there to sponsor or marry her ? thanks agian.

Student loans are NOT social assistance so that debt does not impact your ability to sponsor. If you do not qualify as common law partners (living together continuously for 12 months) you have two choices, Conjugal partnership or Spousal. Conjugal is a very tricky application and difficult to get approved. The links mitimata directed you to describe the different categories. If you are serious about your girlfriend, you best route is to marry her and then sponsor. You still have to show a great deal of proof of your relationship as there is never a "guarantee" to sponsorship. As your girlfriend is not from a visa exempt country, you would probably have to go there to marry her. As a citizen, you can sponsor her from Canada or while living in her country as long as you show proof of your intention to return to Canada upon receipt of permanent residence visa.

Hey guys I decided to back home and get married, but the thing is she has two sisters and one brother. From the same father, but different mothers. Her mother gave her a restaurant so her sisters and brother live with her. The funny thing is one of her brother and sister are older than her. She wants me to sponsor them, but I want sponsor my brother and sister too. Is it possible to sponsor the whole bunch people in my case if the sponsorship money is not a problem??? how many family members can I sponsor from my side and from the woman I'm going to marry???? or should I got to immigration centre and I ask them??? thanks for wasting your time on my problem!!!

Do your sponsorship one at time:) You have to sign an undertaking of responsibility for each person you sponsor and you will be responsible for them when they enter Canada, for three years!!!! If any person goes on "welfare", you will have to pay whatever the sponsored person gets from the government.

Actually, you can't sponsor ANY of her brothers and sisters directly. And you may not be able to sponsor your own either. It depends on a number of things, i.e. age, whether or not you are sponsoring your/her parents, etc. And it also depends on financial eligibility. In any event, NONE of her siblings can be sponsored at this time as she is not a PR of Canada.

Sorry job_seeker, this is wrong. Only spousal sponsorship undertakings are for three years. The other family class undertakings are for 10 years. And besides, he may not be able to sponsor any of them anyway. See above.

You cannot sponsor brothers and sisters at all, unless they are:

brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-law relationship

Note: you can sponsor one relative regardless of age or relationship only if you do not have a living spouse or common-law partner, conjugal partner, a son or daughter, parent, grandparent, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who could be sponsored as a member of the family class, and you do not have any relative who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or registered as an Indian under the Indian Act.

You can, however, sponsor parents.

So based on what you said, I cannot sponsor one of my little brother or sister or her little sister with the woman I'm going to marry at the same time while I'm in back home to get married right ???

That is correct, you are not going to be able to sponsor your brother or sister, unless they are under 18 and orphans (your parents are dead).

Actually, my mother is dead long time ago when I was 12 and my father is got married again and lives with his new family so two of my younger brothers and my little sister live together. I guess this situation doesn't change the answer you replyed to me right?

No... I'm afraid that since they are not orphans, they would not qualify.
