Good morning,

My application is currently in process (since Jan.22), since then I have married. Do I need to notify IIRC of this status change? Also, can I change my name legally and notify them or will this complicate the process?

Thank you in advance,
AA

Hi,
IRCC does not explicitly state to update a change in the marital status after submitting the application, you may update them using the webform if you wish.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ian-citizen/after-apply-next-steps.html#check

The above link shows only 4 instances when to contact IRCC within their stipulated 12 months of processing time.

Name can be changed during the application process. But given the state of things now, I will suggest not to go for it as it will impact the citizenship timeline further.

You may read further below:

Thank you for the information. I was out of the country and I didn't notify them, I ended up being gone for longer than 2 weeks until I was able to get a repatriation flight. Should I notify them now after the fact of this travel?

Technically you should have done it before your trip if you were knowing that the trip was for more than 2 weeks.

But given the covid situation, you can now ignore since you are back and can get away with it as the world came to a stand still and you will get the benefit of doubt ;)

In the current context I do not see it to be a big deal.

No, I didn't expect to be gone for more than 2 weeks...it ended up being 4 weeks but intended 2.

ETA: Should I still notify them in good faith? I don't want to hide anything.

Not needed as I see it was intended for 2 weeks only and their words say more than 2 weeks.
My personal experience - Application received by IRCC on 5th Sept 2019, I was away for 20 days between Oct'19 and Nov'19 and did not update.

Having said that, I do not suggest anyone to just ignore not telling about the travel to IRCC.

Many applicants remain in Canada through out the processing and may go for short holidays during the processing. But some applicants just move out of the country / stay longer than substantial period of time to be categorized as a holiday/leisure trip. These are the instances, I believe IRCC would like to know so that it can then process such applicants accordingly considering that it has to look into greater depths from a security aspect.
