Hi all,

I am from India and have a doubt regarding marital status of my application. I got married last year on 2nd June 2017 but did not register it and my husband went to Canada the same month on work permit. Meanwhile he also applied for PR with "Single" status and got the PR in June 2018. I have also applied in express entry but with status mentioned as "Married" without spouse details and I got ITA today on 13th June 2018. My question is whether there will be any issue with my application if our marriage will be registered in current date i.e. the date after I received ITA. What should I do in this case:

1. Whether I can update my status now as "Single" with "Continue application" tab since my marriage is not yet registered and update it afterwards on registration on marriage. Is it possible to change status from "Married" to "Single" after getting ITA if there is no change in points?

2. Or I should continue with my present status and mention "the date of marriage" in certificate as the date prior to ITA. In this case, will there be any problem with my husband's PR status?

3. If I continue with my present marital status and the date of marriage is the date after ITA but before eAPR, whether it will do good or my file will be rejected?

4. Or I should decline my application and apply only after registration of marriage?

Please suggest if there is any way out consideration less time is taken for processing everything.

There is a chance of misinterpretation.

I would suggest to decline and apply after registration.

Thanks for the reply. So, option 2 also doesn't seem feasible I guess? Also there is no increase or decrease in my points whatsoever status is mentioned.

Registration of marriage and date of marriage are two different things. Even if you got it registered later but date of marriage on it must be the actual date, correct? If yes then it is not a problem coz it doesn't change the fact that you got married earlier. Just imagine it to be like birth certificate, many people get it much later but doesn't mean they were not born till the team birth certificate was not made.
If you mean marriage date is also later than ITA, then it can be an issue.

If we register our marriage with correct date i.e. date is prior to ITA, it will be fine for me but will there be any problem with my husband since he had shown status as "single" in his PR application that time and now he is about to get PR card with those details only.

At the time of his ITA what was his status?

At the time of his ITA, he was unmarried but when he finally submitted his documents after going to Canada, he was married but the same was not registered at that time.

Also, can we not change the "status" to "single" now after receiving ITA while reviewing our details? Will it give rise to any objection?

Then it's all good, he told the truth at the time of his ITA, post that any circumstances can change, it has no bearing on submitted application i.e. if you get married, IELTS get expired, birthday etc..

So now can we mention the correct date of marriage in the marriage certificate or we have to mention current date only because we got married after his ITA but before final submission?
