MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

We are both Filipinos who got married in Canada. In filing our PR, is our Marriage Certificate valid enough or do we need to get the NSO marriage certificate?

A marriage certificate issued from a country from where the marriage took place is conditionally accepted. Canadian marriage certificate is more than enough.

If you look at IMM3905e, country-specific instructions for the Philippines, it makes clear that if a birth, marriage, or death occurred in another country and is not registered with NSO, you need to just provide the original certificate issued abroad.

Additionally, if you or your sponsor were previously married or in a common-law relationship, you need to provide certified copies of the following (as applicable), for each marriage or relationship:
•Divorce Certificate
•Annulment documents (Court Petition and Court Order/Decision)
•Separation Certificate
•Death Certificate, if widowed. Original NSO Death Certificate must be submitted if ex-spouse died in the Philippines
•Declaration of Severance of Common-law Relationship
