Hello friends,

I photocopied + sent in a long form of my marriage certificate in my application but it seems that people are getting requests to resent their certificates. Did I miss something about not sending in the long forms? I'm going to be super annoyed as we photocopied it and that we also got married in the same office that our app is being processed in (Ottawa VO)...... so boo.

Can someone clarify this? They haven't asked me for a doc req as it's too early but if it's seriously not accepted then I will reorder a file size certificate and get that mailed in right away.

Thanks!

I married in S. Korea so I sent my marriage certificate in Korean (original) with translated and notarized copy in English.

I was requested another supporting docs regarding to settle down in Canada after PR etc , but have not requested to send another copy of marriage certificate.

FYI, I did not send Canadian marriage certificate.

I'm curious myself to know which is the preferred one. I sent a photo copy of the long form, too. I read of two people who recently were asking for the standard, $15 form by the CIC.

I ordered the standard certificate yesterday just incase the CIC requests it. (I received AOR this week, so I don't know when they would be likely to request it.)

I see no reason logically why they shouldn't accept the long form. It has more information than the standard one. If they don't, it really goes to show you how ridiculous and subjective the whole process is.

Yup! It's bizarre. I read that someone was requested to mail the original but there's not where on the application that says that it needs to be an original. It would be upsetting if they request the short form since I got married in the same building as my VO AND pretty sure the certificate came from them too lol..

I think I will go ahead and request an original file size too just in case..

First of all the application is sent to Mississauga and that's where the problem is coming from. Over the last year people are sending Long and short forms and both have been excepted. I think it depends on the experience of the officer opening the file. They see Marriage Licence on the top of the long form and automatically think you have sent the wrong thing so request another .Because we sent in the long form we think OK we better send the other one which is the short form.

I sent in the long form from Ontario and had no trouble , others from the same province have been requested to send short . I also just sent a photocopy. If i was reading this forum from start again i would have ordered both and sent both lol . You haven't missed anything . Mississauga missed the boat on these marriage certificates.

So as I was ordering a file sized copy I realized that I indeed sent the wrong item. I actually ordered a "certified copy of our registration" for our marriage. Well this is awkward. -_- I'm so stupid.

Well just as well you realized now.

What makes no sense is that it says you can order either the "file-sized marriage certificate" or the "certified marriage certificate" on the website for Ontario.

They're both certificates.

This is what I sent: <a href="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3303660/Marriage-Certificate.jpg">Click Here.</a>

I suppose I'll just have to wait and see if they decide to be villainous. At least I ordered the file-sized form a few days ago. :'(

Is the certificate necessary for the SA approval or is it for beyond AOR2?

I want to punch the CIC . . .

I would be confused as well...we sent a photocopy of...(goes and finds and looks)...We have like 2 marriage 'certificates'...One is really simple and nothing much on it...the other is fancier and has a gold star of Texas on it and is more decorative. (we included both) We also included a photocopy of when we paid the fees for the license. (just for that extra kick of evidence)

Ours does not have stuff like our addresses, names of parents, etc like what Ineffable posted. That is what our application to be married kinda looked like...

Im not sure what is being called "long form" of the license vs just the marriage license???

Thats the one i sent from Ontario and it was fine.If you look at the right top corner you will see it says Marriage Licence ,this is where i think the inexperience officer gets confused and doesn't realize its a certificate of marriage.

That's exactly what I sent! It isn't a requirement for SA as I have already received it. It will be brought up from your VO office for your spouse or common law partner. Soooo annoyed.

Thanks, mate. Good to know.
