Hi everyone, I'm filling out the additional family information form. My brother has lived with his "girlfriend" well over a year and is engaged, however, in our country there is no such thing as common law. What do I put for marital status for him?
Thanks

If he can't prove he is common law, then... how would he claim he is common law?

well he could prove he's common law, they've lived together for ages. Maybe it wasn't clear but I am applying, as the common law partner of a Canadian. My brother is not included in the application so in the end it doesn't matter application wise. I just want to provide the correct information.

I would put his status as common-law, since it's on a Canadian immigration form.

Thanks, I was leaning towards that too. He/they actually live in New Zealand and recently got PR there so they might actually be common law, I'll have to wait till they are up to check :p

As per CIC's definition, they are common-law, so that's what you should put.

thanks for confirming that. As probably everyone has experienced, I'm doubting everything now that we're getting closer to sending the application... Very gratefull for all the help you guys offer here
