Hey guys, Ive been hearing lots of conflicting news regarding changes this year (april 2013) to PNP - Manitoba for the student stream

for PNP, you have to work a minimum 6 months in manitoba and file for your PR. The provincial process takes 3 months after you file and the federal process another 6 months or so.

In case you graduate from a 1 year college, you only get 1 year work visa. What happens if:

1) You only find a job after 7 months. If you have 5 months remaining, you cannot complete the process of working for 6 months.. Can your employer extend your visa ? How and what process, under what category?
2) You find a job after 5 months, in your 11th month you file for manitoba PNP, It takes 3 months for the approval to come. After 12th month (which is 1 month after you file) you are not eligible to work, but you do not hear from manitoba PNP for another 2 months.. how do you continue working and what is your status ?
3) Can you return to college in case your manitoba PNP gets rejected for any reason, or you are unable to find a employer after a work permit is issued to you ? Will you get a second work permit after you graduate from the college a second time ?

Thanks

Hi,

Check the official Manitoba PNP for exact up to date information, and not rely on hearsay.

Manitoba- need to get ANY FULL TIME job with a SINGLE employer, do that same job for min. 6 months, and then apply for PNP.

Currently working in Manitoba: Applications are accepted from temporary foreign workers and international student graduates who have been working full-time for at least six months and whose employer has offered a full-time, long-term job.
http://www.immigratemanitoba.com/how-to-immigrate/eligibility/

Recently, as on April 2013... they have removed much detailed information regarding international graduate PNP stream, and have just mentioned briefly, putting it together with temporary foreign workers.

MPNP nomination can take anywhere between average 3-6 months. After that, the Federal PR can take anywhere between average 9-12 months.

Once you receive MPNP nomination, you can extend your existing work permit to 2 more years (tied to the same employer), hence giving you more than enough time till your PR comes. So.. the main aim should be to get MPNP nomination before your PGWP (Post grad Work Permit) expires.

Even if PGWP expires, there are ways to extend the WP by applying for LMO (with the help of employer), and once your MPNP nomination arrives, then no worries. But, it's highly reccomended to get the MPNP nomination before your PGWP expires.

Once you get PGWP, that's it.. you can never get it again... even if you study for next 5 years in Canada. PGWP is once in a lifetime opportunity for international students. So, use it wisely. If you feel 1 year will be too short for you... better study a 2 academic year/ 4 semester/ atleast 16 months of actual study course... and be eligible for a 3 years PGWP. Later with no PGWP, you will have to apply for PR under other longer and tougher routes such as skilled worker's stream.

Best of Luck.
