Hi everyone, I am a Masters in Elect Engg graduate from US (H1 yet to be filed in March 09) and just started working having almost 1 year of experience (10 months to be precise). After my self evaluation I am having 66 points wherein I haven't counted score from French and assuming high band score in IELTS. I had a few questions to ask you guys;

1) Where can I increase one point to be eligible for PR as i have 66 points ( any other alternative to French and based on 1 yr continuous work ex..I want to file for PR at the earliest and would prefer filing in 2010, so can't wait to get 2 yrs exp) ?

2) Also are the terms same for filing for Alberta PNP program i.e. same level of experience and educational qualifications?

3) I am a business analyst cum project coordinator so are these fields there on the profession list acceptable for Canadian immigration?

Thank You So much and I look forward to your response.

But what proof of basic french proficiency has to be provided? I mean do I have to clear some french exam even for getting points for basic french?

Also what score is achievable if the French knowledge is basic I mean the least in the point system but still better than zero knowledge.

TEF is the exam for French proficiency.
The point system is on cic website. i don't know it off hand.

Thankyou all for your reply.

Just a little clarification needed. I have my Masters from US and I am originally from India. Do I have to give IELTS exam? I already had given TOEFL 2 years back, I know they don't require TOEFL but since i have Masters from US,can't I tell them via written explanation that I have done all studies in English and got admitted on the basis of TOEFL and GRE which is again in English so any way they can waive off IELTS for me?
Secondly since I am having 66 points, giving a TEF exam for French can get me basic points. But does it have to be a rigorous preperation for the exam to earn those basic points or just a general brush up will do(considering I am a newbie as far as French is concerned)..

Advice will be quite appreciated..Thanks Again

well, you should check whether you can only get 1 point and CIC be okay with that.
There is a clause which says, you can only get 1 point in two categories, which means, they might want you to get 2 points each for at least two categories.

If you have only done only masters in US, yep, you probably have to do IELTS. The chances of them excusing you are slim, especially since you are looking for 16 points.

I am advising based on what i have read here, not based on experience.
