Lying on immigration documents

Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on a current situation.

We called Canada border agency about a family who pretended to live in Canada to keep their PR with fake home addresses and lying on immigration documents. That was 3 years ago. We called again recently but it doesn't seem like anything is happening.

Is this the only way or could I hire a lawyer to investigate and ask them to prove what they claimed in immigration documents?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think IRCC or any government agency is obligated to reveal the results of their investigations pertaining to individual cases. All you can do is report the suspected fraud to their tipline. If nothing occurred after you reported the suspected fraud, then most likely the claim was found to be not credible and the investigation was dropped, or never began. You can attempt to report this again if you wish, but don't expect to hear from IRCC about what they find from their investigation.

Immigration is a government matter, so you don't really have any business to personally investigate this family. You don't have a legal reason to compel this family to reveal anything to you; only the court has this power, and only the government can file criminal charges. So the only thing you can do is to report the suspected fraud to the tipline. Anything beyond this would make it seem that you have a personally vindictive motive against this family, instead of being a dutiful concerned Canadian.

They won't ever tell you what happens. Privacy laws prevent it.
