I came to study an engineering masters degree at UBC just over 3 years ago. I graduated this summer and have a work permit till April 2015 as per the post graduate work permit program.

After jumping through many hoops, I recieved an offer from a Canadian oil and gas company and had accepted it only to be declined at the very end because I cannot work permenantly in Canada. They told me that I could reapply after I get PR but I know that the process usually takes at least 6 months to complete by which time things may have changed.

From my understanding, I think I qualify for FSW, CEC and PNP (I believe that my research and teaching at UBC counts towards work experience in Canada but I'm not sure).

What path would you recommend taking for my situation? I also have a Canadian common law partner and a Canadian relative... if that helps! Would it be possible to get PR within a couple of months?

Thanks for reading.

chances of that happening is like winning a 250 million lottomax... ain't gonna happen. ;D

Getting PR in a couple of months isn't going to happen.

CEC processing time is currently 13 months:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-ec.asp

You qualify for CEC if you have one year of full time paid work experience. This experience must have been gained after you graduated (i.e. work experience gained during your studies cannot be counted towards the one year total).

FSW doesn't open up until May and there's no guarantee you would even be selected (there's going to be a rush of applications once CIC starts accepting applications again).

PNP processing is going to take six months at an absolute minimum - likely several months longer.

Your best bet is probably common law sponsorship (assuming you have been living with your partner for a minimum of one full year and your partner is willing to sponsor you). How long this will take will depend where you're from and how you apply. However you're probably looking at six months minimum. It could be considerably longer depending on your countr of origin and how you apply (inland or outland).

Thanks for the good info. I kinda knew I wasn't going to get PR in 2 months but I wanted to get a second opinion from people in the know just in case I had missed something that could save the job offer.
Thanks again :D

Heyyy with regards to the spousal open work permit, what do we have to provide to prove our common-law relationship other than the CL declaration form? My common-law partner is a US citizen but i am from China with a valid TRV to Canada. Is it possible for me to apply for my open WP under his SP at POE between US and Canada?

Thanks!
