Hi everyone,
I moved to Canada and started living with my Canadian boyfriend in April 2013. In August 2015 I became PR though sponsorship with my boyfriend (common law), I am under Condition 51. We just broke up because the relationship was not going well, and I just moved to a new apartment. He has moved back to this parents place (different province). I have a good job in Canada and my life is here. I don't want to lose my PR, and for what I have read online, my options would be:
1. Inform CIC of the break up with my sponsor. Then they would revoke my PR and would have to go back to my country.
2. Don't inform CIC, wait until August 2017 when I will become a full PR without conditions. This option seems better since all my life is here and I really dont want to go back to my home country right now. Is it common for CIC to check if couples are still living together after the 2 years of PR? I am scared of doing my taxes next year under my new address. My ex boyfriend and I are still good friends and I know that I could ask him to fill his taxes under my address and as "common law partners" still, but I dont want him to get in trouble. Would doing our taxes separately under different addreses make CIC know about the break up and revoke my PR?
I really dont know how to go about this issue. I dont feel comfortable doing anything illegal, especially after all that I have been through to get my PR legally. At the same time, there is only 9 months until August 2017, and I dont want to lose my life here.

Thank you very much.

Just announced today CIC will no longer be applying Law 51. They will get rid of it. I believe very very soon. ;D

So just relax, do what you need to as far as taxes, file how you would think is best fitting. If need be I would contact a lawyer for a phone consultation as a confirmation that law 51 will be gone soon. Up to $100 or so dollars...So you shouldn't have anything to worry about. 8) ooosaa...

ProCaNaDa-MZ is that true? Wow those are amazing news!!! Please keep me updated if you get to talk to the lawyer, that would be extremely helpful! Thanks a lot!!!

Where did they announce they are getting rid of condition 51? The news announcement an hour ago was basically that they are "normalising" inland and outland sponsorship times and are admitting a lot more spouses, along with an improved application process.

I believe so... This is official from CIC website. Please take a look, read through it and ease yourself. :) Good news for you and a lot of other folks for the other reasons posted. Hope I helped. :D

But like I said, if you are really worried and want to confirm, just wait a few days, preferably after December 15th and contact a lawyer. Let the law officially sink in. Most lawyers do phone consultations over the phone (30 minutes or so).... But you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I wouldn't waste your money. The reason why CIC is repealing it is for the main reason for folks like yourself who just do not want to continue on with their partner, and you are not forced to be in an abusive or nonhealthy relationship. Again, all good, you will be ok. :D

Towards the end of the live feed, Minister Mcallum mentioned it himself... For those who missed it. Here is the video. Scroll down on their page and you will find the video.

The condition will be removed but you do realize that you could be denied renewal of your PR for lying about your relationship. Your ex boyfriend could get fined or jailed.

People who are on common law PR have to follow their rules.

Is the cancelation of Condition 51 already applied? or it will be effective soon?
Also, should I file my taxes along with my ex as common-law partners to avoid getting in trouble, or could this be a bigger problem down the road? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Nobody knows when it will be repealed. In the presentation yesterday, he said it would be going, the groundwork had been done, it took time to get things like that through Parliament.

Will it be gone by the time you need to file taxes? Maybe. Will it be gone by this time next year? Almost certainly.

Please explain how the OP's former partner could be fined or jailed.

Also...please explain how renewal of the PR CARD (not renewal of PR status, since [it] doesn't get/need renewal) would be at risk?

Yes, but this has nothing to do with the issue at hand -- this has always been the case. Condition 51 was applied to people in honest relationships that failed before two years was up.

As I already said in response to another post of yours, stop with the bad advice. OP would not be denied PR card renewal and OP's former partner cannot be fined or jailed because their relationship ended after the app was processed.

Don't commit tax fraud.

Only thing worse than lying to IRCC is lying to Revenue Canada. You think IRCC is tough....Revenue Canada can take your money! :)
