Los Angeles Visa office documents request - any help

Dear Mambers,

I applied for PR under skilled worker category on January 2011 from Alberta Canada. I got medical done and after few months today I received following email.
Dear Applicant,
This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada. In order to continue processing your application, the following is required:
1. Copy of current passport biographical page for yourself and your spouse.
2. Completed and Updated Schedule A (Background Declaration form IMM5669) for yourself and your spouse.

My question is why they have asked copies of passports instead of original passports?

Any suggestion/help?

Just do as they ask. They may want to verify your info.
