Hi guys,

I asked on this forum about choosing between NOC code 2232 (mechanical technician) and 2148 other professional engineers (engineering scientists) some time ago for my job with a title called Researcher. The post is canada-immigration-discussion-board/having-difficult-choose-an-appropriate-noc-t191181.0.html

The difficulty in my case is that the job duties provided by the company are outdated, and does not reflect what I do. The job duties are also less-skilled compared to my background, which may raise certain concerns.

So I have been working with HR lately and we had the following list of job duties which gives a better description of my job

X executes a wide variety of tasks related to engineering analysis and testing of pipelines and structures. Specific responsibilities he carries out include:

• Assists senior engineers with modelling of engineering systems, as well as data reduction analysis
• Participates in the development of advanced reliability and risk analysis and other types of analysis methodologies for engineer systems
• Conducts reliability and risk analysis and other types of analysis of engineer systems and interprets the results
• Prepares technical proposals and reports under guidance of senior engineers
• Conducts marketing and business development activities such as presentation to clients and manning trade show booths under direct guidance of more senior employees
• May give technical guidance to more junior employees, assigned to work on a common project

Please give suggestions on NOC code that is appropriate for these job duties. I am still thinking about engineering scientists in 2148, but am doubtful on what really makes an engineering scientist, as the duties for the position as listed on HRSDC website are very short.

By the way, I do not have P.Eng yet.

Thanks.

Well, I would first say go back and read my original response, where I explain why NOC 2148 is not the right NOC for you.

I would add that NOC 2132 Mechanical engineers identifies "research" as the first duty...
