hey, im new here and i was wondering what my best options would be for immigrating to canada would be based on my situation. ive seen a fair share of information over the last week since i became serious about the decision, but an opinion from another person is really what im looking for now.

My Situation: I am 20 years old(21 when I plan to move), live in the US, have a high school diploma, 2 years of college but no degree, very limited work experience(plan on having more by the time I move), I have about $5,000 USD to my name, another 2,000 in assets. I want to move to the toronto area to be with my girlfriend; we would live together once i move. I plan on staying for anywhere from 4-12 months. I would very much like to work while i am there so i can pay back some of my student loans with whats left of the 5k once im settled in. Basically wondering what i will need to do in order to make this move happen, chances of getting in, and ways to improve my chances. Any and all help would be amazing:D if you need more info about my situation, please feel free to ask. Really hoping i dont have to get married to my girlfriend just to be with her, although im young and knowingly stupid so we'll see what happens haha

Check the CIC website on what your options are...here's the link http: //www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Based on that information (see below categories), you really only have one option and that would be family sponsorship and unfortunately you would have to be married for that (or at least living together for a while) and the process can take quite a while from beginning to end. I'd recommend going back to school if you are interested at all and apply as a skilled worker through a province, not federal. Good luck.

Find out about the requirements and the steps to apply in each category:

Skilled workers and professionalsFor people who want to settle and work in Canada (outside of Quebec)
Quebec-selected skilled workersFor people selected by the Quebec government to settle and work in Quebec
Canadian Experience ClassFor people who have recent Canadian work experience or have graduated and recently worked in Canada
Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed peopleFor people who want to start a business in Canada
Provincial nomineesOne of Canada’s provinces or territories can nominate you to settle and work there
Sponsoring your familyHow to sponsor a family member to join you here if you are a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen
