They can not deport him. He has the right to stay in Canada until his work permit expires whether he is working for the company or not.

So did he ask the employer to help him find an apartment? It is standard practice in Canada to rent out apartments with a fitted kitchen and kitchen appliances as well as light fixtures and blinds for the windows but the other furniture you have to provide yourself. It is possible to rent furnished apartments but they tend to cost more. You see on http://calgary.en.craigslist.ca/search/hsw?query=&catAbb=apa&srchType=A&minAsk=500&maxAsk=900&bedrooms= that 850 is not uncommon for a 1 br. apartment. If you rent an apartment, you normally have to pay a security deposit which could be as much as 1 months rent and it is possible that he would have to pay a security deposit also in order to get electricity and other utilities hooked up.

He is allowed to apply for other jobs but he can not start working until he has a new permit. The new employer must apply for a new LMO for him and if they get it, he can take the LMO, drive to the border to the US and get his new work permit instantly when he turns around and comes back to Canada.

I'm just explaining that 850 dol in Calgary is not that expensive for 1 bedroom , like there is nothing wrong, the employer find you place where to live and close to your job ,what do you want ? We all been in Canada same way first time I remember in red deer 4 guys in 2 bedroom apart and we were happy . Like what do you except from your employer more , look for roomate to share with you and make sure that s not your boss apartment because if it istrue , then he want use u to pay his mortgage witch mean if you think to move he can trick u and fire u for some small reason ,it's Alberta , and it happen a lot with employers who hire foreign worker using them to pay their mortgages , but still not a big deal , the price is good , if it's close to your job way better because the winter is bad for someone who live far from where they work, You don't need to find another job just stay at that job until you get your PR , other ways these stories of work permit are like gambling , you can move and find more worse employer , and u stuck again , just don't do it , patient get your PR , don't complain to much ,it's not always green especially with work permit holders. Good luck
