I am looking for some information on the LMO process. My girl friend is here in Canada and has been offered a job as a Thai Massage specialist. She is here on a TRV and is returning to Thailand shortly. We would then like to start the process of getting her here on a work permit. Is it possible to get a LMO for a Thai Massage Therapist?

Her employer will have to apply for the LMO. The basics of the process are outlined here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp

I don't know what the chances are of obtaining an LMO for a massage specialist. (Maybe someone else will be able to comment.) As part of the LMO process, her employer will have to prove that they advertized the job and were unable to find a suitable Canadian to hire for the role.

The potential employer runs a fairly high end spa and feels that in order to charge her customers for an authentic Thai massage she will require a Thai to administer the massage.

Nice idea, but there may well be immigrants in Canada that are from Thailand :)

How long must the employer advertise?

I believe it's two weeks minimum.

What is the length of a temporary work visa? Is there a standard length or can it vary? Is there a minimum and a maximun?

TWPs are usually issued for either 1, 2 or 3 years. Be aware that, in total, they are now being limited to 4 years (max) and then you have to leave Canada for 4 years before you can reapply. To get any form of renewal the employer has to repeat the LMO procedure.

Rusty53 -

Some people aren't comfortable giving out their email address to people they haven't met in person and/or contacting people outside of the forum through email.

For this reason it may make sense to post your additional questions here in case JGK prefers this method of communication and so that others can help answer your questions as well.
