My sponsor and I have lived together in Canada for 2.5 years and did an inland application late in 2017. We received AOR in November, I received my OWP in January, and will do my Medical in the coming week.

We have an issue that I can't seem to find the answer to in any forum: my sponsor would like to move to another province to be closer to her family, however I am unable to move with her for at least 4 months due to my work. We are wondering if we are able to live separately within Canada while the process continues, or if this will cause any issues with the application?

If there is no risk of disrupting or voiding the application, would it be as simple as notifying CIC of her change of address, and my intentions to relocate when able to in the near future?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just so there is no confusion. You and your sponsor MUST be cohabiting together during the whole of the application process. You are NOT eligible if you are living separately.

124 A foreign national is a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class if they

  • (a) are the spouse or common-law partner of a sponsor and cohabit with that sponsor in Canada;

  • (b) have temporary resident status in Canada; and

  • (c) are the subject of a sponsorship application.

Thanks for the response, I thought that would be the case.
