Hi everyone,

I wanted to know that can I live in Canada for more than 6 months? I don't want to work, study or do anything else there but just wanna live there for an year.

Which visa could I get or am I eligible for any Visa?

Hope you understand

Thank you.

A TRV lets you stay in Canada for 6 months. People apply for extension, if they wish they stay longer and often have gotten theirs, provided they have legit purpose to stay

to clarify you are not allowed to live here, you can visit for 6 months and as already mentioned prior to the 6 months being up you can apply for an extension.

There is no guarantee you will be given a 6 month stay on entry if CBSA do not believe you are a genuine visitor.

If CBSA think you are planning to live rather visit doing tourist things then you may only be authorised for weeks only. Same applies should you apply to extend any stay if your itinerary is not convincing

You should obviously always be honest with CBSA about purpose of visit if asked

What If I told CBSA that I want to live there rather then visit, live there for 6 months and told them the true reason. Would they let me enter Canada?

If you are directly telling a CBSA officer that you intend to violate the terms of a tourist visa, you can expect that the officer will cancel the visa and put you on the next flight home.

So which Visa I should apply for if the terms don't match my purpose?

Canada isn't going to create a new visa for you personally, you know.

If the existing visas don't match your purpose, your options are to change your purpose or not come to Canada.

In other words you must find a way to come temporarily...then figure it out after. (Get Married and apply for Permanent Status) Not for the sole purpose of staying here of course...However your urge to divulge your true intentions might get the best of you. Work on that.

If arriving by air then possibly expect to show a return ticket if arriving via US land border expect scrutiny if arriving with luggage or goods for more than a few weeks, that is it appears obvious your plan is to stay long term as a visitor. Add to this what are your plans for health care as a visitor ?

Why exactly one year? Are you trying to get common law with your significant other? If not you are not allowed to live/work here, you would have to find other ways to legally move to Canada. What is your intention while in Canada? How will you support yourself for a year without working?

I think if you give the true details more experienced members on here can give you advice.
