Hi everyone,

I just found out about this resource and I was hoping to pick peoples' brains about this:

My current visa:

POST-GRAD WORK PERMIT (expires June 11)

My plan:

- I've applied to extend my stay as a visitor February 2016.
- As of May 19, 2016 - I will have 1-year full time work experience to start my application for the Ontario PNP. (This will apparently take 3mos)
- After the PNP goes through (fingers crossed) - I will immediately apply for PR. (around 6mos or more)

My problem:

- I stop working for my Canadian company as of May 30, 2016.
- However, I would like to stay in Canada from June 11, 2016 - until my PR either gets denied or approved. I have enough savings to do this.
- I would like to travel around during this time but would still like to consider Toronto my home base to come back to.
- What kind of issue will I run to if I'm traveling and trying to enter the country?
- This is my first time to have a visitor visa, I've always been under a study permit + TRV - or my work permit + TRV.
- So I don't know if my entry to Canada as a visitor living here until my papers get sorted will be as fluid...any insights?

Thank you everyone for any light that can be shed on this..

As you can see there is no "visa" word in "post-grad work permit"... so that is not a visa.

So... do you have a valid TRV?

I would suggest you first clarify what is a visitor status and a trv (not such thing as a visitor visa).

Hi - thanks for clarifying!

I have a TRV with my Postgrad work permit. (They expire at the same time - June 11, 2016)

What I've applied for is to extend my stay as a visitor. Should I be trying to renew a TRV as well then?

As long as you have a valid TRV there should be no issues. Carry proper documentation to support your claims.

A valid TRV is required for re-entry.

I'm a little confused..

when I apply to extend my stay as a visitor, what do I get exactly? Like a visitor permit? Or do they give me basically a renewed TRV?

Getting a renewed TRV would serve no purpose: you would run out of status with a valid TRV.

The extension gives you a permit to stay under visitor status. The TRV renewal is a whole different process.

Thank you Jalex23!

So to get this straight - my application to extend my stay as a visitor should be enough for me to stay here.

But I need to do the TRV process after the decision comes through for the visitor visa? I'm most worried about re-entry issues basically.

This is under the assumption that by June 11, 2016 the only thing I will have will be a visitor visa..(my post grad work permit/and accompanying TRV will be expired)

Hi everyone - so something weird happened:

I applied to extend my stay as a visitor for when my current visa runs out on June 11, 2016.

My application to extend got approved as of March 31. But they're saying my new visa is only valid until - June 11, 2016... so that's not helpful at all.

I'm not sure what's going on...anyone have any answers?

CIC is saying you can only stay until June 11th. Why did you apply so early? I think that's probably a big part of the problem. You should apply again much closer to the June 11th expiry date of your PGWP.
