I used to live in USA on H1B. I have moved back to India in 1999 and I am now trying to apply for Canada immigration. Do I need to submit PCC from FBI?

If it takes 4months to get this, do I wait for it before I apply?

Thanks for your time.

I am a FSW - PRV Applicant

I used to live in the USA until 1998 and had to provide two types of Background Record: Police Record from Florida and FBI Identification Record which is basically the same. Plus the one from my home country.
In conclusíon, you MUST provide Records for that Purpose... However, you can always check CIC Website.

Hi,

Yes you must provide an FBI Clearance from US if you have lived for more than 6 months. This is good for any place you have lived for more than 6 months after your age of 18 years.

Yes, you need the FBI clearance. You do not submit it at the initial stage to the CIO, but later to the local visa office with the full application. So if you are preparing your initial application now, you have plenty of time.

Thank you for the information. I am gathering documents now and will be applying in 2 months time. I will submit FBI fingerprint forms ASAP.

I lived for 9 years in US in three different states. Do I need to State police verification as well? The web site about Canada Immigration says that "The Visa Office will advise you if state certificates are required in your case."

Do I wait for them to tell me about this or I should go ahead and do this anyway.

This application process seems tough but I think it is worth it.
Thanks a lot for you help!

Nothing is impossible!!! YOU WILL BECOME A PRO...

Yes, you need to provide Police Record from every place where you have lidev more than 6 MONTHS. Go with what you have declared in your forms for FSW-PRV. If you mentioned that you live from x period to y period, THEN YOU OUGHT TO GET YOUR POLICE RECORD. I HAVE LEARNED THAT ONE CANNOT PLAY SMART WITH CIC. Ít is better to do things RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. IN CONCLUSION, JUST GET THE POLICE RECORDS FROM ALL PLACES WHERE YOU HAVE LIVED MORE THAN 6 MONTH.

GOOD LUCK

They may not request them, you are supposed to wait. But it's up to you - if it is a big hassle to get the fingerprints done, you may want to get them all done at the same time, you don't have to send the applications right away. State certs can be a bit of a hassle - each one has its own forms and requirements, so you'd likely have to request the forms, and wait till they are mailed to you (which would delay the FBI application, if you wanted to get them all done at once).

Personally, I would wait and see.

Please at least read the instructions before giving advice. The OP will require an FBI criminal records check. It is taking 12+ weeks these days. If he waits, he won't make the 120 time limit. He doesn't have to submit state certificates unless CIC/CHC asks.

Yep, well aware of that PMM, and that's what I said. Last post was only about state certs, prior posts addressed FBI.

As for timing, OP hasn't submitted to CIO yet, at least that's how I understood it.

In case it is too easy to misunderstand what I meant from what I wrote, I will clarify here:

They (CIC-local visa office) may not request State PCCs, you are supposed to wait until they are requested.

But it's up to you - if it is a big hassle to get the fingerprints done, you may want to get them all done at the same time, you don't have to send the applications right away. State certs can be a bit of a hassle - each one has its own forms and requirements, so you'd likely have to request the forms, and wait till they are mailed to you (which would delay the FBI application, - and it would be bad to delay the FBI application).

Personally, I would follow the instructions, wait and see if CIC requests the State PCCs.

I found it easier to do it all at once even though I wasn't at the point where the state PCC were requested. I sent it all in with my application.
