I applied for PR through the family class as a common-law partner in May, received AOR and an extension of my OWP but I’m still not sure if I should leave the country or not?

I’m American and I have family and friends in the US and my spouse and I travel there frequently. We were hoping to go a few times before my application would be approved in May of next year, both by plane and car, and I was wondering if anyone knows if having an OWP makes that easy and harmless or if I should be staying put in Canada just in case because my actual PR application is still in process?

Thank you.

The short answer is that there's never a guarantee you will be allowed back into Canada. The OWP doesn't guarantee re-entry. As an American, the chances of being refused entry are extremely low. So if you are OK with a tiny bit of risk, go ahead and travel.

Also need to be careful how much time you spend outside of Canada. It is unclear how long you are planning on staying in the US.

I usually spend a few weeks a year in the US, if you were to add up the short trips I take.
