Hi
I applied for permanent residency by "sponsorship through marriage/inside canada". I am from the US. I have received my open work permit and Quebec Certificate of Selection, however, I have not been landed yet. I am still waiting for the letter in the mail.
I know that the CIC advises against leaving Canada while waiting for the PR because there might a risk I will not be let back in and all my papers will be null. I called the CIC several times and they always say that it is up to the border patrol to decided if they let me back in or not and that there is always a chance that they will not. However, I need to go to visit my family this summer in the States.
Do you think that it is highly likely that I will be turned down at the border?
I am worried that if I leave before I get my PR, I will lose my status.
Please let me know what my chances are of being let back in without any problems.
Thank you,

Is it really necessary that you must visit your family in the Summer?

You know, sometimes it's worth the wait then having to lose in the end.

Immigration is a tough process for many people and sometimes some are not as fortunate as you are to go and visit your family. Some individuals wait for months or even years to see or touch their family members but in the end it's well worth that time.

I wouldn't recommend you crossing the border while having your inland application in process. You may have regrets later on.

Just be patient and faithful and things will work out in your favour. I am pretty sure that family visit in the summer can wait ;)

I would challenge this fear for Americans leaving during an In-Land application....

How many US citizen without any unusually problems have ever been denied entry back into Canada during a In-Land PR Family Class Sponsorship process?

Most of the problems that are heard about are PR applicants from countries that require Visitor Visas? It is understandable they could be denied re-entry, because their Visas are restricted.

That is not to say it is possible you could get stuck and refused entry, and even under (wierd) circumstances you could lose your PR status.

You know we read these forums day after day and the same question is asked and the same answers are given.....it is totally up to the officer you get at the border and nobody can tell you how he/she is feeling that day.so you just have to take you chances

Thank you very much for the replies! Yes, I know that it is not worth the risk. However, another reason I wanted to go to the States was because I do not have Health Insurance in Quebec and need to do some tests. If I have doctor notes, do you think that will increase my chances of being let in.
Also, approximately how long is the wait to be called in to get landed from the time that my spouse is approved as a sponsor?
And are we going to have to go through an interview together or only I will be interviewed?
Thank you again,
Olga

You applied inland, so your wait will generally be longer, several months at least. Some people wait years for inland applications. The sponsorship approval is the shorter part of the process. I'm not really sure if a 'doctor's note' will help you cross.

Not everyone has to interview, and usually only the applicant has to interview.

The main thing to take from this is to understand that there is a chance you will be rejected at the border. Plenty of people cross with no problems, but there is always a chance. If you do happen to be turned away, since you filed inland, your entire application is basically out the window and you will have to start over again outland.

That was my worry. Now that i have the opinion of others, i see it's best I stay.
Again thank you all very much for your help!!
