Hi, I just received my student permit today, valid until 2020, my program starts on September 5 2018 for a post-secondsry diploma, I'm taking a pathway (english course) before my program starts in the college , and it will conclude at the end of July, my question is , if i can traveling to my country for a couple of weeks after finishing my partway ( to do some paperwork) and go back to Canada to start my diploma. I have the question 'cos at the end of the student permit letter there's a note saying:

*** THIS DOES NOT AUTHORIZE RE-ENTER

But I made my research on the official website and I found it's posible if the student permit is valid among the visa/eTA documents.

Can you help me to clarify my question?

Regards

Arthur

for as long as your program has not began, yes you can but its advisable not to go on any unschedule break that isn't given by the school so confirm to check the school's academic program for your program or make inquiry from your school about it so you won't complicate matters

what this means is that a study permit is not a travel document so cannot be used on its own to travel to or enter Canada.

Everyone including someone with a study permit must either be visa exempt (with a ETA if flying) or have a valid TRV and every entry into Canada they will be assessed by CBSA to authorise entry into the country. Having a study permit to hand gives CBSA a reason for an individual to enter but is not a guarantee.

for clarification purpose.. are you saying after getting a study permit approval, its advisable to also apply for a TRV for the ease and confidence of traveling and reentry or getting an ETA for countries who don't need a Visa to enter Canada?

Oh I see ,so if I have my current eTA, passport and student permit (I mean valid), then when I come back to Canada (before the program starts of course) , the CBSA will require this documents and let me in to start the program at the college. What would be the factors to not let you in, if all the documents I mentioned above are correct? (besides money proves)

Thanks for your response and clarifying my doubt.

if all the documents are intact and you entry Canada with a mindset for study purpose only outside presenting your ETA to the CBSA, if your program date of resumption is months away for the school's resumption date and the CBSA ain't so convince to let you maybe for certain reasons outside monetary aspect, you might be refused entry and be asked to come back a month to the school's resumption date but this reasons has mostly got to do when a student resuming early can't show proof of funds to sustain before the program starts

either way, you might decide to present your ETA to the CBSA and not show your purpose of going to Canada for study gaining entry to tour around campuses but you won't get a letter of introduction which is a crucial part of the SP

..to the best of my knowledge
