Hello,

I am a student from India and I have received admission final (unconditional) admission from a Canadian university. However, I have not yet received my passport (expected to arrive in 3-4 days) and I am yet to apply for my study permit. Its a really tense situation here for me.

Anyone know what my chances are like, at this point of time? First day of classes is september 4th.

Also, if there is any advice you can give me about speeding up the process, it'll be of great help. Thanks in advance.

According to CHC India website you should apply before August 1st while the vfs website states that you can apply latest by August 15th.
So you should apply in next week.

Thanks for the reply, and yes I will be applying as soon as possible. I wanted to know if there is anything more that I can do than just giving the application. Also, if anyone can tell me my chances of getting the study permit based on experience, it'll give me a good idea of how bad my situation really is.

Here are a few details of my situation:
I am expecting my passport in a few days
I am applying for an undergraduate program (bachelors). So far, my education is that I am an IB diploma holder, I got 1810 on my SATs and 114 on my Toefl.
I have been accepted unconditionally into Memorial University of Newfoundland.
All relevant documents for the study permit application are ready and organized.

If anyone can analyse my situation and my chances, it'd be great. Thanks.

Students getting late is something very usual for universities, that is why they have an option of deferring your admission to the following semester. So don't worry too much, if you feel as if your visa will arrive later than your start of classes, just defer your admission to the January session. Its only a matter of 3-4 months.

Good luck :)

Hey,
Thanks for your reply. That is not a worry, I know my course can be defered to the next semester.

I am currently residing in Mumbai. Does anyone know whether the processing is faster in the Mumbai VFS office or the New Delhi CIC office?

Also, what are the chances that they will ask for a medical examination?

Thank you.

Every applicant has to undergo a medical if they are to be given visa. Some cases are rejected even before medical.

If they want to call you for a medical, its a good thing as more than 90% people who get a call for a medical, get a visa! unless there is some medical deficiency God forbid....

I've been struggling with incompetence of indian police officers to do the police verification of my passport, but I think that I will be getting my passport in a day or 2.

Your profile is good and getting visa shouldn't be problem for you.

You can take upfront medical examination this will expedite your visa process. Book your medical with any DMP ASAP as you can send your documents to CHC after 1 week of your medical.

Apparently I cannot take the upfront medical exam without my passport.

Is toefl okay? Everywhere online it only show IELTS...

IELTS is must for SPP. While the CHC will consider your TOEFL acceptable for your University category. Check the following discussion for more detail:
