So my wife and I did not think this through and when we received our marriage certificate to copy and send with our PR application, we also went and changed my wife's last name. I have read things saying to keep everything in her maiden name if her passport still says that (she is the sponsor). Does anyone have any input on this? Do we need to change everything before we send out our app? I really hope not because we have been ready to send it for weeks now and finally I think are through all of the unexpected delays.

if her name changes, she needs to get a new passport, so what you can do is get the new passport and send a copy of the passport as soon as you get it. they will need to have legal documents with her new name. it's not a big deal. happens quite often, nothing to stress about.

No you don't. Just use the name as it appears in her passport, on the application forms. Her birth certificate will show her maiden name. They'll figure the rest out. In our case, the "passport" was ONLY place her name changed . . . everything else had her maiden name on it. It wasn't a problem, even though she was the "applicant".

Well we are not changing her name on her passport because she just renewed it a few months ago and we were told it was unnecessary as long as she carries our marriage certificate during travel. I was more wondering more if we should wait for her new license to come to send copies of that or just continue to use the one with her maiden name.

You said your wife was the sponsor . If it was the other way round i would be concerned . I would just go ahead and send what you have.

I only changed my name on passport in order to get a nexus pass. I did not change it in order to apply for PR. Once I did change my passport they already new and my ecase had been updated before I even scanned my new passport to them. I am the applicant and it wasn't a big deal, it's even less of a big deal since she is the sponsor.

Thanks everyone. I kind of thought it wasn't as big of a deal because she was the sponsor but I wanted to hear from others experiences with it.
