Language requirement for Citizenship

Hi all,

I am a PR since 2014. As per new system, looks like will be eligible to apply for my citizenship in 2018 Jan.

I just have a query regarding language requirement. It asks for the General IELTS exam as to proof my language proficiency. I have 7.5 in IELTS academic and also studying a diploma program (1 year) at McGill University which will be finished this Dec, 2017.

Can I use the diploma certificate as a language proficiency or have to have General IELTS to fullfill that requirement?

IELTS academic is not accepted. Diploma should work according to the guide. See below.

You attended a secondary or post-secondary education program in English or French, either in Canada or abroad.

• A degree, diploma, certificate or official transcripts from a secondary or post-secondary education program showing you studied in English or French, in Canada or abroad.
• If the original document is in a different language, include:
  • a letter from the school showing that the language of instruction was in English or French along with
  • an official translation of the original document and
  • the address and contact information (phone number) of the education institution

99% of 2014 prs are applying now, did you travel? Or get pr around dec 2014?

Thanks Razerblade for the answer. Looks like don't have to spend $ for IELTS.

@NewUser2018: yes, I traveled back home and US for almost around 90 days since I landed in Aug 2014.
