Landing questions

Hi everyone!
My husband will be landing next month, I understand that he must fill out the B4 forms, have his COPR with him and his visa....but what about his belongings? We bought the ticket yesterday and the agent told him that he was only allowed 2 suitcases of 36kg each, and he did repeated only 2 suitcases. I read on the forum that when you are landing, you can bring many things but there are also airlines regulations, how does that work, will he simply have to pay extra fees to bring a 3rd luggage for example? We don't want to ship anything afterwards, just too complicated, he doesn't have many things but he may need a 3rd suitcase?? The other question is that he will land in Montreal but then has other flights...i am just afraid that the inside flight will not allow the 2 pcs luggage of 72kg??? Anyone has gone through this before and can advise us on what is the best option if there is another option? Thanks in advance!!! :-*

No special baggage allowances are given to those who are landing for the first time as permanent residents. So yes - if you want to bring more luggage than the airline allows (or heavier luggage than the airline allows), you will have to pay the airline to carry that additional luggage. Each airline has slightly different rules. So you will have to contact the airlines your husband will be travelling with (or visit their web site) to determine what charges will apply for the extra luggage.

they are some international flights aloud only one carry on, and check in luggage no more than 23 kg, i would recomend check online how many luggageges you are aloud, or cal your airlines and verify , if you have extra luggage the fee for that it can be from 75 and up, the rules of regulations for the lugagges are subject to change so please call them , i am talking with the experience because i am a travel agent

Did you buy the entire flight schedule all on 1 ticket/payment? i.e. say for example a single ticket purchase that goes Paris - Montreal - Toronto. If this is the case, then when you check your 2 or 3 bags at the Paris airport at your origin, that is the only time that you will talk to a customer service person for the airline. when you transfer your bags in Montreal to final destination inCanada, its only for security/customs, so they dont care about fees or weights.

However if you bought the other flights under separate tickets or they are on another day, then you will need to go through the whole bag checking process again, and follow whatever rules/pay fees according to the domestic flight.

Also he will be doing his PR landing in Montreal, so I hope you've budgeted a long layover before the next flight for this as depending on how busy it is, the wait time for PR landing process could be a while.

He will have to clear his bags with customs in the first Canadian airport that he lands at and then recheck them if going on to another domestic airport. But if it is all on one ticket it doesn't matter what they weight it is the first airport that deals with it.
