landing, medical insurance?

Hi all, so I'm landing on Monday..
I know I need my COPR, passport, and list of belongings arroving with me (nothing is arriving after so I assume I don't need one of them.. only thing is , do I need medical insurance? Iv lived in Canada for 3.5 years already, left a year ago, Alberta health care and sin is expired but should be applying for that as soon as I land.
Do I need to have private medical insurance for landing? Is it a big deal if I don't?

Cheers, and as for Alberta health care, as soon I apply and confirmed it is valid, no 3 month waiting period? So if I go get registered day 1 then within a short time I will be covered again? Cheers
