Hello Everyone,
We (Wife + 2 Kids )are planning to land in Calgary in fourth week of November. It would be of great help if any of you could give us some guidance on how to find accommodation before we land. We are looking accommodation center of the city near Metro Bus/Train station.
Secondly also suggest is it a good time to settle in Canada because we heard that from November to February weather is very cold and didnt do anything but in November/December there are so many job opportunities.

Also it would be great if any of you guys are landed in the same period, please suggest what to do?

Hey there!

I am not familiar with Calgary but websites like Kijiji and Craigslist are the best placse to start to find an apartment or house to rent.

November is a very unpredictable month. Sometimes you have snow starting from the beginning of November. Sometimes it takes until about Christmas to get snow. It's really hard to tell. But definitely be prepared for cold and snow ;) Welcome to Canada!

Hi, I'd advise you consider airbnb. I'm assuming you're looking for temporary accommodation... Ideally, that's what you should do so you give your self a chance to explore the neighborhoods etc. You can reside at an airbnb for a month, and make sure within that month you find a permanent option in a neighborhood you're comfortable.

Otherwise, the general rule of thumb is: accommodation in the city center, any city, is expensive - keep that in mind.

Greetings and salutations, I myself reside in Calgary and I can tell you now, if you wish to obtain some accommodation in the downtown sector then you'll be paying out an absolute fortune in rent. Calgary has good transit so wherever you choose you can guarantee that there will always be a bus stand close by. The C-Train serves most of the metropolitan area of the city too.

As for your second query, its currently autumn (or Fall) in Calgary but we've been somewhat lucky with the weather of recent. Day temperatures have been quite high for the time, around 14 to 20 degrees centigrade for the last few weeks, some days even hotter than that but it's cooling down now. Winter tends to last from mid to late October to April but I've been snow blizzards in May. I cannot say for sure but if you plan to land in late November then you'll need to be prepared, wrap up warms, bring or buy warm clothes, coats, thermals, it'll be somewhere below freezing I'm guessing.

Can I suggest that you re-post your query to the Housing part of this forum, you'll definitely get some better results: -

I think AirBNB will be a good place to start looking for short term (longer term) accommodation.
Realtor.ca will show you what is available also.

If you are looking to stay in a hotel or motel, you can probably negotiate a long stay rate weekly, bi weekly or monthly. Most of them will be accommodating.

Hope this helps.
