Hi everyone, I have a question for you. I am an outland applicant who sent in his application in the beginning of September. I am currently staying in my home country while my wive is waiting for me in Canada. We planned that she will come visiting me for Christmas here in Switzerland and already bought a ticket for her.

I was expecting that the sponsorship program will take quite some time since everyone says to expect up to 12 months. It seems now that my application is moving pretty straight forward. I am already done with medical, biometrics, my background check started and I received pre arrival service letter. I get the feeling now that I have a chance to receive a decision soon and get my COPR before Christmas (maybe).

My question now is how long can I wait after I received COPR until I have to go to Canada. Would it be okay if I wait until January or do they expect you to move instantly or within a certain timeframe?

Thank you for your help. Have a nice day.

I think you just have to land before your medical expires.

Also congrats on the fast moving application! We applied in September too, but we still haven't heard anything from CIC.

Here's hoping you will have your COPR soon! The application can move fast through some stages and really drag on at others. Background check is sometimes the longest, but maybe you have a fast-working VO!

Good luck.

The expiry date for your CoPR will be clearly indicated on the CoPR. You MUST land before that date. The expiry date is 'usually' (but not always) one year from the date of your medical.
