I believe on my first application I may have made the stupidest mistake of my life and fibbed slightly as to how me and my now common law met, we met online and in the beginning I felt this may have made things harder to get an extension of his visiting time...we have since extended twice more and are now doing his sponsorship paper work - common law...in doing these papers should I acknowledge that I may have fibbed or should I just tell the truth the whole truth so help me God and hope it goes through?? :-[

I have to admit, I did the same because the person who actually introduced us we were not speaking to at the time (REALLY bad falling out, name calling etc) And didn't want to ask or have CIC call her and ask her. Would like to know the answer too!

Misrepresentation is a serious thing, but how would CIC ever know what's the truth? We could all be lying about how we first met our partner. They really have no way of knowing unless you have supported this with evidence. So, I think you should both be okay, as long as there is no way that CIC can figure out from your evidence that you have misrepresented.

For my wife and I, we met while working at the same company. She worked at the main location, while I worked at the second location. We included scans of our employee ID cards showing that we were both working for the same company. I think this will be enough for CIC...

My suggestion to others is to be totally honest about everything. If CIC catches you in a lie, even a small one, it could really screw you.

so @fence sitter would you think that I should just file with the whole truth...this extension was almost two years ago now...have extended twice since...don't know what they keep as far as a file...but I get it from now on honesty is the best policy!!
