Citizenship and Immigration Canada employee George Gonsalves Barriero was arrested in relation to bribery cases. He was working at the Etobicoke office of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The 53 year old man was a suspect for accepting bribes from immigration aspirants, the information was provided by the department itself. On Wednesday ultimately the search warrant was issued, at the Barriero residence in Toronto. The search was carried out by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

He has been arrested on 3 cases of trust infringement. The man accepted cash in exchange for granting permanent residency in Canada.

Sgt. Marc LaPorte informed the QMI Agency that the evidence in all of the 3 cases is already present. He also added that several more people have come forward with their allegations, however, because of lack of evidence; these cases could not be converted in to charges.

LaPorte said that the during the search operation at the Barriero residence, devices like mobile phones, computers and other equipment were ceased. There are chances of more charges entering in to the investigation.

The Immigration department has supported the investigation by the police Alykhan Velshi the spokesperson of the Kenney led Canada Immigration Ministry said that the any crime done by the public servants is a great source of concern and is treated as a serious matter. He said that Barriero had been suspended from his post and said that the department took care of all that takes to maintain the name of the department and support the police investigations in every possible way
