Just landed, can we get married?

Hi,

So I just landed this last weekend and got my CoPR client copy with all seals. The officer said this paper will help me get a new SIN number. I was wondering then that maybe this "sealed CoPR" can help me start my fiancé's spousal sponsorship. We have been engaged for quite a while and we were waiting for me to finish the process of PR to get married.

Can we get married right away to get the marriage certificate and then apply for "Family Class" or should I wait until I receive the PR card?

You can get married and start the process. If you haven't yet started filling out all the documents and collecting proof, it will take you a few weeks anyway to get it all together.

No, and that is why I'm asking, if not we could have applied as common-law.

I am looking into conjugal relationship which is exactly what we are ATM. The issue is that we plan to get married in the near future.

Any thoughts?

conjugal is definitely not the most optimal way to apply. Only apply conjugal if you really have no other choice.

If you plan on getting married in the near future, then do so and then apply.

You need to check all the requirements for Sponsoring someone,
It is true that you don't need to have a minimum income to sponsor anybody,
but you need to be able to prove that you can support her without the need to
resource to Welfare,
If you just landed, you are not going to be able to provide proof of income at all...
I would begin by getting a job and in 2015 after you fill your taxes then
would be a good time to begin the process of sponsoring your spouse.
Immigration always ask for Income information and at the moment you may
not be able to provide proof of any Canadian Income.

That would be my only concern...
I may think that this would be the only risk in your application if you do it right away.

There isn't a high amount of risk.

I had just returned to Canada and was unemployed. OP can show jobs applied to, post secondary education to help in obtaining a good job, savings he has, any family support, etc.
