Hello all. My fiance and I are applying for permanent residence from inside Canada (YAY!). We have been living together for over 2 years now. We're almost done getting all of the forms filled out. I was a little confused about Schedule A IMM 5669. On the guide, it says that the principal applicant and my dependents fill out this form. On the actual form, it says that "The principal applicant, his or her spouse or common-law partner.."

Oh shoot. It also says "..listed in the application for permanent residence must complete their own copy of this form"

So, that means my fiance (the sponsor) does NOT need to fill this out. I've only read through it 100 times. I guess the 101 time is the charm? :) Am I right?

My next question:

We're sending our application to Vegreville, Alberta like it says to do at the bottom of the guide. When I was filling out the Generic Application Form For Canada (IMM 0008) Question #4 says "Immigration Office requested for processing this application" I'm not sure what to put in there but as far as the guide goes it should be CPC-V, correct? I live in Montreal, Quebec. I don't know if that changes anything lol

Also and this is my last question guys! :P

I will be sending my application out very shortly but my visitor status here will expire very shortly as well. Do I need to keep filling out an extension request form until my application for PR is approved or am I allowed to stay here legally while my application is being processed?

Thank you so so much for taking the time to read this and reply. This is an exciting step forward for us and I can't wait till it's done!

Always,
Lisa

Make sure you send in your visit extension form and your application for an open work permit WITH the application package. That way, it is all tied together and your visitor status will be implied because you have already applied to renew, even if you don't hear anything back right away and because of the work permit application (hint: use a change of status form and write "ask for an open work permit to be granted to me upon first stage approval") you will get your work permit as soon as you get your first stage approval instead of getting a letter stating that you can apply for it and then having to spend extra time applying and waiting for it.

Thank you. I will do that as well! :)

Have you been a visitor for the entire time you have lived together or did you have some other type of status?

I have been a visitor, no other status.

I have noticed that the change of status forms are different now. I'm having a hard time remembering the months I began working at previous jobs :o

How accurate does it need to be? I left the months blank in some of the other forms because I can't remember that far back. I've had several part time jobs.

I feel like my head is going to explode! Anyone else have those problems?

Hi Alenynn,

It is a very stressful process and everybody on this site has experienced it whether or not it seems to have gone smoothly for them. If you leave anything blank your application will be returned to you. Is there somebody in your family that can help you with this. Have you kept previous income tax returns because you could refer to your T4's. I am sorry you are experiencing this. Go and do something else for a while and give your brain a break. I have been stressing since the day my husband's file was transferred to the local office Oct. 1. We have heard nothing since. It is a nightmare because you worry about every detail, and all that runs through your mind is "misrepresentation". You are not alone. Try and do the best you can and then come back to it later when your head is a little clearer. Do a draft copy then go over the years in your mind one by one and you should be able to pick up a little more each time.

Thank you for the help. I do find that I have to walk away for a bit before I completely go nuts. I can ask my mother in California to see if she can find my T4's. I wish I been better organized with important paperwork such as that over the years. I'll do my best to get it all together. If I can map it out in my head then that's great but if I do slip up and get the wrong month and year, what will happen? I'm not lieing, I just don't have the proper history map and my memory is not the greatest. Can I be denied because of that? :(

Take Apple cider Vinegar, fasten your seat belt...and try to enjoy the ride. Things will work out for you in the end, however, it will most likely be a bumby ride. Having said that......try to be as accurate as possible

Haha, thanks much. :) I'm asking friends back home to help me with these dates. Has any of you attached a seperate sheet of paper to explain that you couldn't accurately map out the dates and that you tried your best on it? :(

Hi Alenynn,

I can't speak for anybody else but no, a message like that leaves an opening for an incomplete application to be returned. My husband had a pretty complete resume, so he could track back using that.

Alright, bad idea lol I was looking through old emails from a friend and I managed to piece together where I was working at the time. Thank you hotmail! I feel like I can breathe again. Phew. Thanks to all of you for helping me through this. I could not have done it without you :) All that I have left to do is fill out the open work permit, print out some old emails/plane tickets and get to organizing. Any tips on how to organize everything before it all gets put into the envelope and mailed out? Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Don't lie or hide anything on the application and make sure you read IP8 all the way through before you mail the application. Just type in IP8 on the internet. You will understand soon enough. I truly wish the best for you and your spouse. Donna

Hi everyone,

I have the same question like Alenynn reg. the form 5669. My common-law partner who is Canadian is going to sponsor me. Does he have to fill in this form??
Thanks a lot in advance.

The form says at the top that "the principal applicant, his/her spouse or common-law partner that is in the application for permanent residence must complete this form." I don't think our partners need to fill this out since he is already a Canadian citizen and not applying for permanent residence. Can someone confirm this?
