Dear Shibu

Check Indian Custom Laws , and you can carry DD with you ,
Kind Regards

Shibu,

I know some information , still i have not laneded there

1) you can not carry more than 10,000 CAD for cash ( if you are primary applicant)
2) i think they will ask about funds and not about jewellery (but do not bring much jewellery)
3) you can convert INR to CAD using travellers cheque (i hope you have account in Indian bank)

i am also not pretty sure but i know above information. better to ask some other seniors.. :)

Not quite true - at least for the canadian side (I ave no idea about indian laws). You may take as much money as you want. However, you have to declare to customs if you carry more then 10,000 CAD in any form. Depending on the amount they might ask where the money is from, but nothing else (these rules are to fight money laundring, etc.)

Thanks jaydipal, BC,and maseed for your 's inputs. God bless you.

You may have to if asked. Keep all the documents pertaining to the purchase of the currency handy. Sometimes when they scan and find excessive jewellery, customs may ask questions, so be ready with the details and preferably with receipts

3.How can I convert INR to CAD$ without opening an account?Airports gives the worst exchange rates. Try your local bank or an authorised dealer who would make such transactions. Save the receipts.
4 Please suggest the cheapest and best way.
Thanks

I have got a D/D made from Thomas Cook for Canadian Dollars. The D/D which has been issued is signed by officials of Thomas Cook and the D/D is of Bank Of America,National Association,Canada Branch. Will it be acceptable as proof of funds?

Thanks

You must check first the Indian law hom much money in cash are you allowed to take out of the country. I can't remember how much is it in my country but I know that it is much, much less than 100.000 CAD as someone had mentioned. If you try to smuggle more than the upper limit, the money can be confiscated, probably all of it. Every country likes that you spend your money, not to get it out!
