I don't know how important, but it is pretty easy. We first opened joint account, added to my BF account, so he kept his and we had one together, but after a while we decided we don't need 2, so we deleted "joint" one, and made his original for us both. took us about 15 minutes.

Not a big deal if you can show you and your spouse support each other some how. Showing some kind of financial support between each other is helpful.
