I have got student visa on the basis of my pursuing GBM at Humber from jan 2014 onwards. Although sem starts on 6 jan, i had got my tickets for 15 (and wud have started classes on 17) as my sister is getting engaged on 14th night. Now, 4 days back i got an email from humber saying i must start classes by 6th and no later than 10th. I then wrote to the intl office and their admissions dept and even the course co-od and they all refused to give me the extension as they said ill miss out on too much of studies etc. and so i either join by 6th or defer my admission to may intake.

However since i am not willing to miss my sisters function, I wrote to them and though they still wudnt allow extension or delayed joining in jan but i could join the May session by deferring my intake in Jan. So i have a few questions:

1. Since i have admision for jan intake, will they issue me a fresh LOA (iv already paid sem 1 fees) and transfer fees for the may intake or will i need to take refund and restart whole admissions process?

2. Will I have probs at the POE in May as they will ask me i was to join in Jan intake and why I deferred it to May and they might not find the reason of my sisters engagement good or valid enough. Can they reject me on that basis and send me back? the validity of my SV is 30-aug-2015 and Since I already have the SV, this is of major concern to me.

Has anyone else here, having gotten their visa, still delayed their entry to the next sem for some other reasons?

Im super worried as the days r very close and whatever i need to do i have to have it done ASAP. All help will be appreciated. thanks.

There is nothing to worry. They will extend your joining to next session. They will issue you a deferral letter (it's must for you to have one). At POE, you won't have any problems, keep all documents handy (must have deferral letter) and if possible carry the engagements cards (if you have any and pics of the function just in case if IO asks too many questions). Rest it's not gonna be an issue. College won't charge you anything extra for deferral. But you must inform them about deferral ASAP.

cheers!

Hey thanks uv been of alot of help!

Although, another query I have is that assuming I get admission into another college by the said time (I have applied to a few), can I just get a refund and head to that place in May by showing the new LOA? (keeping in mind the level of study in 2nd college isnt PG like GBM, its a post-12th diploma) or should i stick to the safe side by showing Humber deferral letter/may LOA and then move?

Sorry to take this topic in this discussion..

the next day of my brother's departure for MS, my grandmother expired..she was closest to him, of all the grandchildren she had..many of my relatives still say, she was sad at his leaving n that gave her a stroke..

since he just reached a new country, we had to hide the news from him for few months..such is life

and that is the price we pay for moving to far away places..we should be ready to miss out on the occasions

Agreed. but there is too much rigidity with respect to their dates. not withstanding, Im perfectly OK with joining in May as I *TW* still have a steady job and i can join in May at the cost of losing 4 months so long as i have the deferment letter in hand. My only concern was repaying the fees/readmission and probs at the POE, both of which seem pretty sorted as per sabby's reply.

I have a question if u get ur visa late till jan mid or so can u deffer to next intake an go by the end of jan would there be any problems ??in doing so ?

College will not have problem,if there is availablity in next intake..u just have to followup until the money is adjusted into next intake

usually colleges dont flex their timelines.. as is the case with me... and instead they will issue u a deferred admission for next intake or refund, if u dont want to join later.

im not sure about that. what i do feel is if u travel too early, ul be subject to questioning at the POE as to why ur going so early. a month or so is acceptable. almost 6 months earlier? I doubt it.

Not at all a good idea to travel 6 months ahead of program start date. At max, a month or two is okay, but 6 months, buddy you gonna try your luck so hard.

And i guess somebody asked another question about visa validity. Well if you are supposed to join in Jan 2014 and you deffer it to May 2014, as long as your TRV is valid, you can enter Canada. What's really important is the duration of the study permit issued which is issued at POE. Visa will always be of the duration of your program or PP expiry date, whichever is earlier so is the case with study permit, duration of the program not exceeding the expiry date of PP.

hope that helps.

Cheers!

oh no..so, the study permit too is issued until the passport validity ? thats bad news..

the letter i got from CHC India says validity of March 2016 but my passport has a visa until Nov 2015,which is the validity of my passport...so, even my study permit is going until Nov 2015 ?

it's pretty obvious study permit or trv can't exceed the expiry date of passport. But once you renew your passport, you can have another study permit (trv even on cancelled passport stands valid).
