My job title was "Application support analyst" but NOC 2282 does not have that in the unit group. Closest I see is "software technical support analyst". Will this be a huge deal if my employers just go with "application support analyst"? Are they going to nitpick about that or do we have to change it to their term, ie. "Software technical support analyst"?

Ignore the NOC job titles; they're not important.
So go with Application Support Analyst.

Thank you for the response. Will do just that.

I was also thinking what about the job duties? I hope they won't be silly enough to look for exact matches. Because that would be a really silly reason to not consider experience.

The title does not matter, the same job may be referred to by different titles across geographies and across companies. What you should be concerned is the NOC match. However, when getting your reference letter from your employer, get your job title as referred to in your company and not as per NOC list.

The job duties are the most important aspect of the reference letter.
The job duties listed in your letter need to cover at least 60% of the duties listed for the NOC. But the duties in your reference letter should be worded differently than in the NOC.

Okay, so what about the job descriptions? NOC 2282 looks like this description-wise

And my actual job description looks like this:

While selecting the NOC, the duties and responsibilities mentioned in the NOC should be a close match with the actual duties and responsibilities carried out by you at the respective job. You need not match the duties and responsibilities word by word, but the idea is to have the closest match in terms of the spirit of the duties and responsibilities (at least 60%-70% match).

Also, NOC should be selected on the basis of the match of actual duties and responsibilities carried out by you rather than the designation match in the NOC list. If you are not sure of your NOC, write to noc@workingincanada.gc.ca with your job title, duties and responsibilities and educational qualification, they will help you find the closest fit.

In that case, my actual job duties will have to be left just at that wouldn't they? I have written an email to noc, thank you for that address. But if you looked at both of those links, do you think they have that 60% match? Assuming it is 2282 until I get a response from noc.

I was also thinking when NOC responds to me, can I use that email screen capture as proof of ESDC acknowledging my job with a NOC code along with my experience letter submission to CIC?

Yes, you can do that, you can save the email that you receive from NOC Team. And submit it along with LOE if required. But please note that NOC Team only suggests what could be an appropriate NOC based on the information sent by you to them. Note that the final decision for selecting the most appropriate National Occupational Classification (NOC) code is each individual's responsibility as you know your education, skills and abilities better than anyone else.

With LOE, got it. I can explain it there rather than just throwing the email exchange at their face. Thank you.

So ESDC replied to my email and said according to them it can be 2171, but the duties of 2171 listed there do not match my job duties, the screencap of which I posted on this thread. Now I am confused. Is it 2171 or 2282?

Anyone can help with this?

Your duties as written are a better match to NOC 2171 than 2282. The way your job description is written, it sounds like the technical support aspect is just a small part of what you do. If that is not the case, you will need to discuss with your manager/supervisor about preparing a job description that better matches what you actually do.

As for NOC 2171 - you have to read the lead statement as well as the duties/responsibilities. And where the job duties use the term "client" you can certainly replace that with "project team", staff, end users, etc. Based on your job description, you sound most like the first type, Information systems business analysts.
