Hi everyone,

I am an Italian guy looking for a job opportunity here. I'm currently here as a tourist, but I'm applying to several companies in ontario, in the GTA. I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology, and I got the TOEFL test in Italy, with a score of 92/120 (level C1-proficiency). I currently don't have a work permit, and I would like to know if somebody knows some canadian institution which helps immigrants to settle down, obtain a work permit and find a job. Or if somebody knows who I can talk to, I would be pleased to be contacted.

Thank you in advance.

Yari

There are several such organizations that are government funded - but they only provide these types of services to immigrants (i.e. people who already have permanent residency status and can legally work in Canada). Since you are not an immigrant but a tourist, you can't take advantage of their services.

As I'm sure you know, to qualify to apply for a work permit you'll need to find an employer who is willing to offer you a job and can obtain an approved LMO. Obviously this isn't the easiest thing to do due to the LMO cost, processing time and advertising requirements.

Have you considered applying for a working holiday visa next year? (assuming you qualify) This might be the best way for you to get some work experience here.

Good luck.

Thank you scylla,
I wanted to do it this year, but there are only 1000 places for Italy, well-served based. I'm gonna apply for a temporary work permit next year. But in the while? Any advice to give me?

Apply to as many jobs as you can (which you qualify for) and don't be discouraged by the lack of responses. The majority of employers don't want to deal with LMOs. Hopefully you will get lucky and find one who does. Be aware that CIC recently increased the requirements for LMOs and also added a fee. So that unfortunately doesn't play in your favour. But finding a job certainly isn't impossible. Familiarize yourself with the LMO process (info can be easily found on the CIC site). The employer is the one who has to go through a process. But you should understand it.

That's about the best advice I can give.

Good luck...
