Hi, I am also applying in Jan. 2015. Do you know if I have to pay the citizenship fee (630$) the day I become eligible, or can I pay it few days earlier?

It should be the new fee starting the 1st of January. Not sure if you pay ahead and they will compare it with your eligibility days. Worst case is that they will probably let you pay the balance.
