Hi all !!!

Really hoping to get some answers asap :)

I own a business in Canada (work there daily) and i have a very close family/friend living in jamaica. I have known the family over 20 yrs - literally watched him grow up. Like a little brother to me. i wld like my friend to visit canada. Possibly work in my Spa as an Attendant which i desperately need right now.

Shld he apply for a visit visa ?? Immigrate here ? I can write an invitation letter for him to either work or visit .... We just dont want to waste time and take the wrong route.

Thanks in advance ;)

He cannot work on a visit visa.

If he wants to work in Canada, then you will first need to obtain an approved LMO and then he will have to apply for a work permit.

Information on LMOs can be found here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp

There is some kind of crack in the system where people are able to hire foreign workers in places like gas stations, tim hortons and farms etc. You may have to do some investigative work to find out. Heck! I have seen people working at$10.25/hour and have a mortgage of half a million dollars. So nothing is impossible. You just have to find out how.

Ok thanks everyone .....so im wondering if i just wrote an invitation letter inviting him here for a visit (see if he likes it here) ...them go from there. Just not sure how much of an impact my letter will be .....

Friends can invite right ?

I don't think that's a good way to go unless he only wants to come here to visit.

To be approved for a work visa, he must demonstrate that he has strong ties to his home country and has no plans to remain in Canada long term. If he's already in Canada it will be more difficult to prove strong ties and I think it will increase the chances that the work permit may be refused.

If you really want him to be able to work in Canada, then focus on getting the approved LMO. That process alone will take several months. You'll need to start by advertising the job to prove that no Canadian could be hired for the role.

Just to add... yes - friends can invite friends.
