Italian moving to Canada for 3-5 years

Hello all and thank you in advance for your advice.

I am Canadian, my boyfriend is Italian and we live in France. We are planning on moving to Canada for 3-5 years and want to know the best visa for my boyfriend to apply for? He wants to be able to work and stay for over a year. We have lived together for 5 years and are not yet married however many people have told me it is easier to get married? Is this true? Any advice would be much appreciated.

You can apply to sponsor him for PR. If you have been living together as common law spouses for over a year, it wont make any difference if you get married. You just need some proof to demonstrate your common law relationship.
