Italian/Mexican niece 14 yrs old can come to study middle school in Canada?

I have an Italian/Mexican niece that is 14 yrs old and would like to go to Canada to study middle school. Is that possible? Would she need a study permit? Would she be permitted to stay in Canada without her parents? Would she need to be enrolled as an intern? Will she need a relative in Canada to stay with him/her?

Yes - she'll need a study permit and someone to act as her guardian since she is a minor. She will also need to pay tuition (even if she is attending a public school). I would budget $12K-$14K per year for tuition.

I would suggest you start by talking to the school. I have heard of people who have brought in kids like that and have enrolled them in school where they lived, without any questions asked or fees paid.

However, the school could require her to have a study permit for a minor, an appointed custodian and to pay tuition. If you have to pay tuition anyway, you could look into private schools as well.

If you want to do things by the book though, you should apply for a study permit for her. You should also get her some type of emergency insurance because she will not be covered by health care.
