Hi guys,

So I've recently been issued with my Letter of Introduction (technically the work permit).
And i'm planning on flying over there (to Calgary) early next year.

I've talked to a few people who managed to secure a job from here in New Zealand before they landed in Canada. Most were in IT.

I know that Canadian employers love canadian experience + credentials, but I'm in the web development scene (.NET , html, css, C#, ..etc.) and it's a transferable skill worldwide and is not regulated.

I'm currently preparing my chronological resume to Canadian standard, but just wanted to know what my chances are of getting an interview via phone or video Skype and getting an offer before I land ?

I am planning on applying through employers directly AND through agencies to increase my chance.

I know my visa is only for 1 year but I will tell them that I am working towards my PR & citizenship and am in it for the long haul.

It doesn't matter. You need Canadian experience.

You have a little advantage as being from a desired immigrant country (UK, USA, NZ, AUS).

Depends on where you apply and the need for your current skillset. Needless to say .NET , html, css, C#, all are pretty common around here.

The problem with agencies is that they mainly look for contractors and contractors should have a strong resume (with Canadian experience) to be a good asset. Also you need to start immediatly (2 weeks), so unless your landing date matches the employers' then the chances are not so good.

Hard to pull it off. Employers usually know immigration and know that you will need at least 1 year of Canadian experience to apply for PR. Citizenship is a very long shot. Therefore you need a story that actually matches from the point you get the 1 year Canadian experience to the moment you recieve PR (which is basically 18 months from your IEC's expiration date).
