Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen and planning to move to either Middle East or India and appreciate any inputs on the questions below

1) My wife a expecting a baby in mid 2016 and I might be out of this country by then and I need to know if my expected child be Canadian citizen (my wife is Indian Citizen) just because I am citizen or he/she will get local citizenship depending on where I am.

2) Since I have been laid off and planning to leave country for a year, do I qualify for Employment insurance (EI) after I come back to Canada in late 2016.

3) If I manage to find a job either in Middle East or in India in this period and declare my self as non-resident here in Canada and save the difference in Taxation in Canada, Is there any negative impact on my citizenship in Canada?

Thanks

Vivek

Your offspring are Canadian regardless of where they are born. But if they are born outside of Canada, they are citizens by descent and cannot pass on Canadian citizenship to any children they may have, if those children are also born outside of Canada.

There are time limits on applying for EI and the date you apply relative to the last date you worked may affect your benefit amount. Its complex.

Once you are a Canadian citizen, you are always a Canadian citizen, unless you committed fraud on your application or get convicted of terrorism or treason or something, although the Liberals have pledged to eliminate that provision as well. In other words, there is no effect on your Canadian citizenship of declaring non-resident taxation status, although CRA may not agree with your declaration--depending on the quality of residential ties you maintain with Canada while you are away.

No - you must be living in Canada to qualify for the child benefit. You'll have to wait until you return to Canada to apply.
